What Is This Frame?!: An Apology, & An Announcement
Last weekend, we introduced a new toolbar that was intended to help you and your friends share interesting content more easily. However, in our excitement to get it up and running, we forgot a key step in the process: telling our users about the toolbar itself, which appears whenever you share a link or a photo from Streamified or Start Google Plus. We should have let you know about this in advance, especially all of you Start Google Plus users out there. And for that, we sincerely apologize.
On a related note, Start Google Plus, the browser extension that brings your Facebook and Twitter streams into your Google+, is being upgraded. We’re aware of the extension’s problems and are completely recoding the whole thing in order to make it usable and up to our standards. When the extension is finished, it will be available as an upgrade to the existing Start Google Plus extension, but will be called Streamified. We’re working on making sure our Streamified and Start Google Plus websites will reflect this change.
Now, back to the toolbar…
If you haven’t seen the toolbar yet, it gives you options for sharing the content on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+. Again, it appears whenever you share a link or a picture.
Here’s an example of real-time usage. If I share about Angry Birds Space on my social networks (which I did… and you should get it!), my followers and friends would be able to click the link to read the content. If they like the content, they can also share it on their social networks by clicking the buttons in the toolbar. We thought this would be a fun and easy way to help you and your social circles share interesting things.
What is clear to us now is that the “Download Streamified” and “Visit Streamified.com” links can make our intended usage of the toolbar a little confusing. You may have thought that the sharing links were ways for you to share information about the Streamified app itself, not the content you had clicked to view. We’re working to make the toolbar’s purpose clearer, shifting the emphasis from downloading Streamified to sharing content with your friends and family.
Again, we’re so sorry for any confusion that this may have caused. We truly believed that this feature would be something that you and your friends would find helpful, and want to make sure that you know that.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
