Updates to Streamified.me: A New Look & New Features

We’re excited to announce that today we’ve rolled out some updates to Streamified.me.  Streamified.me is a web app that allows you to enjoy the Streamified experience wherever you are - all that’s needed is a browser that can access the Internet.

Mobile users, take note: these changes will be coming soon to our iOS app and will be present in the Android app starting with version 1.0 once it is released.

A New Look

The first thing you’ll notice when you go to Streamified.me is the new header bar. While you can still access your settings, switch the stream you’re currently viewing, and compose a post from the header bar, directly below is where you’ll find what’s new.

We hope that this makes it easier for you to understand when Streamified.me was last updated as well how frequently it checks for posts. (For more information about what happens when the app updates, by the way, check out our blog post from yesterday).

On the right, you can see that by default, the stream will update every 5 minutes. This throttling is in place in order to make sure that our servers don’t get taxed too hard. However, we have introduced something new for users interested in a premium experience…

Introducing: Streamified Subscriptions

Streamified Subscriptions are our attempt to create additional features which frequent users of Streamified will find useful. None of the existing features will ever cost money, and we will continue to improve the Streamified experience for both subscribers and free users. To be even more clear: we have not disabled any features. We’ve only added new, optional features.

If you do choose to become a Streamified subscriber, you’ll soon be able to enjoy the benefits no matter what platform you’re using. As we mentioned earlier, when our Android app is released, all of the features mentioned in this post will be available; a Streamified subscription will apply there, too. When our iOS update goes live, a Streamified subscription will also apply on that platform.

The first benefits of our new subscription plan, dubbed Streamified Premium, are speed and themes. With this upgrade, your feeds update 5x faster (if you’re also a user of our browser extension, you’ll see the speed upgrades in the Google+ injection, too) and your notifications come more often.  You can also manually begin a stream update and choose to apply a different theme to your entire Streamified experience (instead of our leather journal theme). So far, we have already included one additional theme, but we will be adding more - and we also allow you to create your own.

The reason we chose to go with a “subscription” model for Streamified Premium is that the additional speed causes an increased load on our servers, wich in turn increases our costs. We’re already planning more features to go along with subscriptions, though, like analytics (to see who is clicking on your links), collaboration tools (to edit drafts of posts by other users), and so on.

Introducing: Profile Pages

Returning back to Streamified.me, let’s take a look at those icons underneath the header bar. The first icon on the left (with a person on it) will take you to your new profile page (your profile page will also be accessible from http://streamified.me/YOURUSERNAME). When I click on mine, it looks like this:

  • First icon (person): I can look at my profile; when public, your accounts are listed here as well as an optional biography (see fifth icon for more information), or you can opt to make it private like mine.
  • Second icon (pencil): Compose a post here.
  • Third icon (calendar): This is where you can view all your scheduled posts. More on that in a few minutes…
  • Fourth icon (@ sign): View your notifications feed here.
  • Fifth icon (person with a gear): Edit your Streamified username settings here. This is where you can make your Streamified profile private or public as well as input an optional biography to be displayed on your profile. Note that this is the same thing you’ll see if you go to the username settings in Streamified.me, so it’s also where you can sign up for notification emails or even our mailing list.
  • Sixth icon (paint roller): Streamified subscribers can change the look and feel of Streamified.me here. In the future, we’re hoping to have a variety of options here. If you or someone you know is interested in contributing a theme, let us know!
  • Seventh icon (price tag): View your Streamified subscription status here.

What else is new?

Introducing: Post Scheduling

The calendar icon, which is now below the header bar anywhere in Streamified.me and also visible in your profile page, will let you see which posts you have scheduled (please note that this feature is available to free users!). Of course, right now you likely don’t have anything to see here, so let’s talk about how you can schedule posts first.

In Streamified.me, click the compose icon. You’ll now see that calendar icon right above your list of accounts; clicking on it will bring up a pop up:

Click OK” to pick an exact date for this post. Click “Cancel” to place the post into a queue, where it will be posted a certain amount of time after the last post.

Thus: if you’d like to pick an exact date for your post to be published, click the “OK” button! A pop up will appear, allowing you to specify exactly when you’d like your post to go out.

Or, if you’d like to queue the post to be published at the rate of your choice, click the “Cancel” button. You’ll then get something that looks like this:

Now, when you go to your post manager (remember: either click the calendar icon below the header or the calendar icon in your profile), you’ll see posts you’ve scheduled:

What do you think?

These are brand new, so we’d love to hear your feedback. We have a quick feedback form that you can fill out to let us know what you think of these new features. Or, alternatively, you can contact us at GetSatisfaction or drop us a note at Facebook, Twitter, or Google+.
